IRNA - Several days of heavy rain in Iran, has caused the rivers to burst their banks and has claimed 14 lives and surrounded 34 villages by water. The deaths occured in Khuzestan and central Saveh. Thousands of hectares of farmland, livestock and infrastructure were destroyed, causing damage worth millions of dollars according to IRNA.
Jomhuri Eslami Newspaper - Crowds of Iranians have been gathering at the house of
a 10 year old girl in western Iran after she claimed to have contact with the world beyond.
The daily Iranian newspaper said the crowds were drawn to the home of the unnamed girl in
the town of Kangevar, after she made the claim.
Last Christmas, crowds gathered outside a Tehran house where it was claimed the image of
Jesus had appeared on the wall.

Tehran - Thousands of young Iranians defied the government warnings and celeberated
the Iranian fireworks night in style. Police were out in force but the youths lit up fireworks and
jumped over fires to celeberate this ancient festival. Since the 1979 revolution the authorities
have tried with little success to curb what they see as a pagan pre-islamic tradition.
Tehran - Deputy head of customs Mohammed Reza Sadeq, quoted by the daily Keyhan,
said Iran's non-oil exports stood at $2.9 billion in the 11-month period before February 19, showing
a 25% drop compared to a year ago.

Jerusalem - Yassir Arafat, President of the Palestinian Authority, has for the first time openly singled
out Iran as being behind the Islamic suicide attacks in Israel.
Germany - German authorities have issued a warrant for the arrest of the Iranian intelligence minister, Ali Fallahiyan, in
connection with the murder of Kurdish leaders in Berlin's Mykonos restaurant in 1992.
German prosecutors spent months investigating suspected links between the Iranian intelligence ministry and the gangland-style
slaying of three leaders of the Iranian Democratic Party of Kurdistan, before issuing the warrant.
The international condemnation, of the broadcast by IRNA, included strong reactions by

The Independent - According to an article in the Independent today, Iran is reported to have bought
enriched uranium from Russian diplomats based in Northern Afghanistan. The enriched uranium - bought
secretly by Iran two months ago, according to the Independent newspaper - was smuggled by underpaid
security guards at a nuclear plant in Kazakstan.
In Washington, the CIA director, John Deutch, expressed concern over the threat of "loose nukes" from the
former Soviet Union.
The Independent also quotes one Westerner in contact with the dealers as saying "Iranian colonels and
majors walking around with Samsonite suitcases full of $100 bills, who are shopping for this stuff..".
The three were held back by the Eritrean authorities for lack of proper identification, but were later informed
of their identity through diplomatic channels. Sudan said the three Iranians were working on the southern gas
fields in Sudan.
Meanwhile Iran's foreign office spokesman Mahmoud Mohammadi demanded the speedy return of these
Iranians to the Islamic Republic of Iran and said "..any delay in the their release is a breach of international
laws."
